Weekly Photo Challenge: BIG Splash of Color   6 comments

Here’s the last bit of color before the fall storms came in, blowing much of the leaves off the trees.

In the past thirty-eight years I’ve lived in Utah, SW Iowa and NW Missouri, this is the first time all the fall colors came together. It was awesome.

Spring is still my favorite season for two reasons:
1. Winter has ended; and
2. New life is evident everywhere, and not only in nature. I think people tend to come out of hibernation as well.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Eclipse of the Moon (Silhouette)   14 comments

I was traveling at night and happened to have my camera with me. The moon was high to the west, the direction I was heading. I came upon this old windmill in the close proximity of the moon.

I came to a quick halt and parked to the side of the road out of harm’s way, not that there’s a lot of traffic out here in the boonies at 3:30 a.m. There isn’t.

I took my camera and my tripod, the latter I rarely bring along on my nightly journeys. I walked around and was able to line up the windmill with the moon.

I took several photos and got back in the car, as it was quite cold out. As it turned out, the only picture that turned out was the very last one I took and here it is.

I hope you enjoy it.

It is said that some people don’t know the end from the beginning. That’s not the case with this toadstool, which found its new beginning in the ending—the ending being a cow pie from the end of a cow.

Beauty is where you find it and sometimes you find beauty in places where you would least likely expect to find it. There’s no telling what one may find while wandering around in a field with a camera hung around one’s neck.

Sometimes you get lucky. Other times you make your luck. Such is true for life itself.

Some of you may be old enough to remember the song by Andy Williams, then later by Gerry & The Pacemakers called “Walk Hand in Hand.”

“Walk hand in hand with me through all eternity
Have faith, believe in me, give me your hand
Love is a symphony of perfect harmony
When lovers such as we walk hand in hand.”

What is love if not walking hand in hand through not only this life, but throughout all eternity? In the words of Michael Martin Murphy,

“So what’s the glory in living?
Doesn’t anybody ever stay together anymore?
And if love never lasts forever, tell me what’s Forever For?”

Let love enter your heart and you will become a free spirit like you’ve never known before. It will change your life forever. Then you’ll know that love does, indeed, last forever!

Here you are, Rick. Is this what you had in mind? Even if it isn’t, I like it better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Jesse James Through the Looking Glass   27 comments

While this is technically not a “looking glass”, we are “looking” through a “glass” window at a photo of Jesse James. Why Jesse James?

Jesse, the famous outlaw who, with his brother, Frank, and gang, robbed a Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad train shortly after it departed from the small town of Winston, Missouri on July 15, 1881.

Jesse shot and killed someone he thought was in charge of a train that brought some Pinkerton agents to his mother’s house in 1875 the night that his little brother was killed. Jesse shot him in the back.

Frank, not to be outdone, shot and killed another man who apparently was attempting to stop Jesse from shooting his man. The mystery is why no one was ever found guilty of the killings.

The above photo of Jesse James is located in the railroad station in Winston. The station is now a museum. Although I’ve never seen anyone there, it does have railroad memorabilia inside.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unusual Ant Hills   24 comments

While returning from photographing a sunrise through some trees and over a pond, I came across these unusual tiny (presumably) ant hills. I thought I’d share them with you for this week’s photo challenge.
